Series AA 52/2 comprises Campbell's official and private correspondence relating to Aboriginal anthropology and archaeology. The series includes the following items: AA 52/2/1 Folder of miscellaneous correspondence including the following items: - Letter from AS Kenyon in Victoria to Professor Wood Jones on 21 February1922 disputing some statements made by Professor Howchin in his paper published in volume 45 of the Transactions of the Royal Society of South Australia.
- Letter to Campbell from the Curator, National Museum of Victoria, on 21 April 1923 providing information on Aboriginal skulls from Victoria in the Museum's collections.
- Two typescript copies of a paper by RE de Bertrodano (1926) entitled 'Description of an Aboriginal tribe (Yulgilbar, Clarence River, NSW)'. This paper provides an account of the customs and lifestyle of the Aboriginal people who inhabited the Clarence River area (Yulgilbar).The paper was subsequently published in Records of times past. Ethnohistorical essays on the culture and ecology of the New England tribes, edited by Isabel McBryde (AIAS, Canberra, 1978). Also included is correspondence to Campbell from M Moral, the son of de Bertrodano, providing some additional information on his father and on Mary Bundock, the author of some ethnographic notes on the Aboriginal people of the Richmond River area (see below). This correspondence also refers to an Aboriginal man, Cueybaum, the 'chief' of the Tugarimba and Gundurimba tribes of the Lismore area, New South Wales (NSW)
- Typescript paper by Miss Mary Bunduck of Wyangarie Cattle Station entitled 'Notes of the Richmond River Blacks' (with handwritten amendments by Moral (see above). This paper provides an account of the customs and lifestyle of the Aboriginal people of the Richmond River (NSW).The paper was subsequently published in Records of times past. Ethnohistorical essays on the culture and ecology of the New England tribes, edited by Isabel McBryde (AIAS, Canberra, 1978).
- Page 2 of letter from Professor S D Porteous to Campbell on 19 March 1929 re proposed lecture by Porteous in Adelaide in May 1929 (page 1 is missing).
- Letter to Campbell from Mounted Constable Schneider at Wellington Police Station on 12 March 1933 advising that Archie Blackmore is currently residing at the Native Reserve at Wellington. Other Aboriginal people who Schneider issues rations to at Wellington include Albert Karloan, Pinkie Mack, Alf Gollan and Fred Wasa. Previously accessioned as AA 52/1/1.
- Letter from Charles Fenner to Campbell on 28 October 1938 reporting that Fenner has been told by a prospector that there is an area near the Arckaringa Creek, west of Oodnadatta, which is thickly-strewn with australites.
- Correspondence (1950-53) between Campbell and AH Chisholm, Editor-in-Chief of The Australian Encyclopaedia, concerning Campbell's contributions on Aboriginal dentition and Aboriginal microlithic tools.
- Copy of letter from B Daily, Curator of Fossils and Minerals, SA Museum, to NB Tindale, Acting Director, on 15 November 1960 requesting appointment of additional curatorial staff.
- Copy of letter from JC Dawkins at Reedy Creek, SA, to Director, SA Museum on 12 January 1961 offering to obtain faunal specimens for the Museum on his next trip to Africa.
- Copy of letter from Chairman, Underwater Research Group, to Director, SA Museum on 20 January 1961 re proposed publication of an 'Underwater Naturalists' Handbook'.
- Copy of letter from Gordon Gross, Curator of Insects, on 3 February 1961 to Acting Director, SA Museum, re his collecting trip to East Timor.
- Letter to Campbell from HL Movius in France on 17 May 1961 re publication of his paper in Current Anthropology.
- Letter to Campbell from Fred McCarthy, Australian Museum, on 1 June 1961 complaining that Tindale had carried out excavations at Noola Cave (NSW), a site that McCarthy had been investigating for some time.

- Letter to Campbell from SR Mitchell in Victoria on 30 May 1962 discussing Aboriginal stone artefact typology in South Australia and Victoria, including reference to Hood's Drift site in south-east South Australia.
- Letter to Campbell from SR Mitchell in Victoria on 22 October 1962 advising that due to medical problems, Mitchell will not be able to accompany Campbell on his trip to the Grampians.
- Copy of 'Report of the Aboriginal Affairs Board for the year ended 30th June, 1963', with minor handwritten annotations by Campbell.
- Letter from K Stuckey at Furner, SA, to Campbell on 9 September 1963 re reserve at Mt Burr.
- Correspondence with SA Department of Lands (July-October 1963) re protection for Aboriginal rock engravings at Panaramittee.
- Copy of letter from Campbell to SA Minister of Agriculture on 4 March 1964 recommending that a reserve be established to protect the Mt Burr rockshelter site.
- Letter from Secretary of SA Pastoral Board to Campbell on 7 May 1964 re draft legislation for protection of Aboriginal rock art sites, with copy of draft Bill attached.
- Correspondence with Commonwealth Parliamentary Draftsman (July 1964) re use of capital 'A' for Aborigine/Aboriginal, plus other notes and correspondence on this subject.
- Letter from Henry Beyron, Stockholm, on 14 May 1965 to Campbell re publication of Beyron's paper on Aboriginal dentition.
- Letter to Campbell from 'Bertha' at Murray Bridge on 9 June 1965 re Aboriginal painting site at Rockleigh in the Mount Lofty Ranges.
- Letter from Campbell to John (Mulvaney?) on 8 November 1966 re the 'Report of the Committee on Stone Implements'. Discussion of stone tool types and definitions. Originally accessioned as AA 52/1/3.
- Postcard from 'Bertha' to Campbell on 8 March 19?? re Aboriginal campsite and burial site near Murray Bridge.
- Letter to Campbell from 'Doug' in Oakleigh, Victoria on 12 February 19?? re early European history of Robe, SA.
- Typed list of 41 photographic negatives provided to Campbell by George Aiston relating to the Tarcoola area. The negatives, although evidently received by Campbell, are not in the Campbell Collection. The photographs provided by Aiston evidently included views of The Pines Station, Warna Hut (on Wilgena Station), Concabbie Rock (11 miles north-east of Tarcoola), Cooladding Rockhole and Pinding Rocks, as well as a number of views of Tarcoola township and the Glenloth Goldfield.
AA 52/2/2 Folder of correspondence between TD Campbell and Prof S Porteous (1962-1965) relating mainly to the filming of the use of the Porteous-Diamond Learning Machine by Aboriginal people at Hermannsburg Mission in Central Australia. AA 52/2/3 Folder of correspondence between TD Campbell and Dermot Casey (1962-1965) relating mainly to Aboriginal stone artefact types and typology. AA 52/2/4 Folder of correspondence of the Board for Anthropological Research including the following items:
- Correspondence to Campbell from EA Colson at Alice Springs (May-July 1930) re arrangements for proposed BAR expedition to central Australia.
- Letter from HA Heinrich at Hermannsburg Mission (NT) to Campbell on 6 June 1931 re proposed BAR expedition to Hermannsburg. Heinrich is happy for the BAR to visit Hermannsburg, but suggests that the anthropologists could find Aboriginal people to study at Ilbilla, Piltardi in the Petermann Range or at Horseshoe Bend, where there are some 'Lilla Creek natives'. Heinrich's letter includes a list of about 200 names of Aboriginal people at Hermannsburg.
- Letter from Constable Virgo at Oodnadatta Police Station to Campbell on 19 June 1931 advising that there are some Aboriginal people at Macumba, Lambina and Oodnadatta who would be suitable subjects for anthropological study. Virgo advises that 'there are always a fair-sized camp on the Alberga Creek' near Lambina Station, and 'a fair crowd of Natives' at Oodnadatta. Virgo also advises that Indulkana Station has closed and there are no Aboriginal people there.
- Letter from FH Albrecht at Nuriootpa to Campbell on 23 June 1931 advising that after the BAR's 1929 expedition to Hermannsburg there was a strong revival of traditional ceremonies because the anthropologists had encouraged the performance of these rituals. Albrecht does not want this to recur if the BAR again visits the mission.
- Letter from Ernest Kramer in Alice Springs on 4 July 1931 to Campbell offering his help in finding Aboriginal people for the BAR's proposed studies. Kramer's letter includes brief references to the 'Illpirra' and 'Ngali' tribes.
- Letter from Sid Staines at Erldunda Station (NT) to Dr Pulleine on 25 November 1931, advising that he can 'muster up a hundred of more of those Petermann blacks into Mt Connor' where they could be examined by anthropologists.
- Undated typescript recommending increased protection for Aboriginal people in central Australia from encroachment by European pastoralists.
- Undated typescript entitled 'Suggestions in connection with the protection and care of the Aborigines', recommending extension of the Central Australian Aboriginal Reserves.
- Minutes of BAR meeting 23 September 1932.
- Two copies of typescript report 'The Natives of Central Australia', providing a brief account of the 1932 BAR expedition to Mt Liebig.
- Typescript report 'General and detailed reports on Anthropological field work at Mt Liebig, Central Australia, August 1932, carried out under direction of the University of Adelaide' providing a general account of the expedition and summaries of the physical, physiological and genealogical studies undertaken. Details of photographic and cine-film records are also provided.
- Typescript copy of paper by CS Hicks & RF Matters 'The standard metabolism of the Australian Aborigine' reporting the results of work at Cockatoo Creek in August 1931.
- Typescript report '1933 Anthropological Expedition to the North west of South Australia' providing a brief account of the 1933 BAR expedition to the Musgrave Range and Mann Range.
- Correspondence (1960) relating to the proposed publication by the BAR of a handbook on the Aboriginal people of South and Central Australia.
